This Tutorial uses Paint Shop
Pro 7 but It does not matter which version of PSP you use. I have zipped up all
the images you need for this Tutorial, you can get them HERE. This
Tutorial is my own creation based on this effect I have been playing with for a couple of
months now. Please do not take it as your own and I ask that you give me credit for
the effect achieved from it.
Place the Images into whatever
folder you use for your images. You may use your own image and backgrounds if
you like, altho your main image should be 450 x 450 for the frame to properly fit
around the image. Please remember to save often and empty your clipboard
periodically, helps save us from crashes. Below is what you will be creating:

Okay, let's get started.
Open up all the images from the zip
file in PSP, minimize everything except for the Bullfinch's image. for now. We
will begin by promoting this image to a layer, this is easily done by double clicking on
the layer in your layer pallette and clicking okay. Now open up your Gold Frame image and
edit/copy/ then edit paste as a new layer to your Bullfinch image. Go back to your layer 1
and click on your selection tool/ Tolerance 0 & Feather 0. Draw out a rectangle
midway through the gold frame image, see screenshot below:

My screenshot shows a red line which
you will not have, you will have the marching ants in it's place. I just did that to show
you how it should be. I used the tiny dots in the corner emblems as my guide line for the
rectangle. Now go to Selections/invert and flood fill with the Bullfinch blur bkg at 100%,
angle 0. Now the frame is pretty much hiding the line between blur and Bullfinches. Go to
layer 2 and change the blend mode to Luminance. The corner gold is the only ones you
do not have to change the luminance on as I already did those for you.
Layer 1 stays at normal blend. All opacity levels are set at 100%. The
image below is what it should look like now:

Be sure you are still on layer2. Now
open your Gold Frame corner image and edit/copy then edit/paste as a new layer on your
main image. Line this up in the top right corner of your image. We will have to move all
these corner layers slightly to line up with the Gold Frame pieces you will be putting in
but, we do that further along. You want to be left with a gap in between them for the
other pieces. Below is what you should have at this point:

Now go to Layers/duplicate then
image mirror, again duplicate the layer you are on and then image flip, again duplicate
and then image mirror. Now you should have all four corners as in the screenshot below:

Now open your Gold Frame Piece image
and edit/copy, edit/paste as a new layer onto your main image. Using your mover tool place
this piece in the middle top empty section, refer to the finished creation above for
placement. Change this layers blend mode to Luninance. Now duplicate this layer then
image/flip. Next you want to edit/paste as new layer the piece that is already in the
clipboard. Move this piece to the left middle empty space and change the blend mode to
luminance on this layer. Now go to image/rotate 90% left, then layers/duplicate,
image/mirror. Now you will want to go to each corner layer and move each one slightly
closer to the left and right pieces so there will not be any lines showing between them.

Above is how your layers should look
now, if they do not, use the above image to put yours in this order.
Now you can go to Merge/merge all
flatten. Go to image/add borders, symmetric checked and size is 10. Using your magic
wand tool, tolerance 0 & Feather 0 click on the border to select it. Flood fill this
border with the Bullfinch blur bkg. Keep it selected and add a new layer, still keeping it
selected flood fill this layer with the Bullfinch shiny bkg. Now change this layers
blend mode to Luminance. Now go to effects/3d effects/drop shadow and apply the settings
shown below:

Do another drop shadow this time
changing the horizontal and vertical to minus 2. Merge/merge all flatten, save
as, and you are done.
